Details

Join Stephanie Alexander and Ian Parmenter, the former host of the ABC’s Consuming Passions cooking show and the Foundation’s Ambassador in Western Australia (WA), for a truly exceptional training day in the beautiful Margaret River.

Stephanie will kick off the day by sharing her philosophy and the journey she took to establish the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation. Participants can then join in a Q& A with Ian and Stephanie, and the Foundation’s officer in WA, the lovely Marcelle Coakley.

The morning is then split into hands-on kitchen and garden sessions.

In the kitchen, led by Stephanie and Ian, participants will learn how to use seasonal produce from the world-famous Margaret River region, with a special visit from local producers who will drop in and share their stories.

In the garden, participants will learn advanced techniques, such as espaliering and fruit tree pruning, biodynamic practices and strategies for a highly productive garden. There will also be a garden tour, which will include a stroll to examine artworks by renowned local artist Rebecca Cool.

The afternoon is all about meeting and catching up with other local kitchen garden schools and centres to exchange experiences and learnings. A critical component of any Networking and Skills session, time to network is often the highlight of the day, equipping participants with a bounty of tips and ideas to try out in their own kitchen garden program.

If you are new to the kitchen garden program or have just become a Kitchen Garden Classroom member, consider attending the introductory Delivering Kitchen Garden Classes workshop or the online course Getting Started: An online course for educators.
